The Bakersfield City Firefighters Relief Association is having its 8th Annual Trout Fishing Derby & Pancake Breakfast held at Riverwalk Park Lake on March 9, 2010. This event is a special day that is focused on our local children with the opportunity to fish with an off-duty Bakersfield city firefighter and catch a fish for the first time. Our fishing derby was born out of a desire to create a community event that benefits burn survivor’s and children from the Jamison Center. This year we are sponsoring 30 kids from the Jamison center, MLK center and our local burn survivors.
The proceeds generated from this event go to sponsoring the children of our community and their fishing gear/equipment, food, and prizes. Additionally, The Bakersfield Firefighters Relief Association donates to many organizations throughout our community including the Bakersfield Firefighters Burn Foundation, Make a Wish, Mendiburu Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy, Relay for Life, Links for Life, JDRF, and many more.
For the first time, Calaveras trout Farm will be tagging and stocking 25 Rainbow Trout from 6 to 10 lbs as an added bonus to the 8th Annual Bakersfield Firefighters Fishing Derby and Pancake Breakfast. The CDFW will stock over a thousand pound of Rainbow Trout for this years event. The 25th tagged fish will be worth up to $1000 with a guaranteed $1000 winner with the lowest number tagged trout caught with an event T-shirt.
Please come and join us in support of this great cause and have a fun filled day with the family.
